Mexican Food In Korea

Destination Korea! Foodie Friday

This week I’m going to highlight Mexican Food in Korea!

Mexican Restaurant in Korea
I cannot speak for all of Korea but in Daegu and Busan there are a couple of so called Mexican Restaurants.
Being that I am from Cali and lived in Texas I am only familiar with Baja and Tex-Mex variations of the food but this is something different.
What is Mexican about this food? The Name, The Flour Tortilla and maybe the fact that they use meat in the recipe.
Of course since this is Korea and not Mexico I can’t be mad at the fusion of Korean and Mexican tastes.

The typical menu fare we have seen is Burrito, French Fries and a Drink.

The Burrito:

The Burrito Tastes Delicious! But it’s not Mexican.  It is a flour tortilla filled with coleslaw, a type of meat, maybe rice, and a sweet mustard sauce. Oh yeah and yellow cheese.2015-07-02 20.10.09

It is an interesting mix of sweet and seasons meat taste but is quite delightful. Plus it is filling. A set is about 6,500 Korean Won which is much less then you would pay at a Chipotle but with reason.

Overall it is a good mix of flavors but don’t come with high expectations of authentic Mexican tastes because you will leave disappointed, instead appreciate the fusion of the cultures.
